Ports

The rich fishing grounds around the southern part of the UK are served by a fascinating variety of ports and harbours.  In the south west, Brixham and Plymouth in Devon and Newlyn in Cornwall are the main fishing ports with their own auction markets.

Travelling north from Newlyn, the next auction market to be found on the west coast of the UK is Fleetwood in Lancashire.  Travelling east from Brixham, your next most likely port of call will be Shoreham-by-Sea where Brighton and Newhaven Fish Sales Ltd will accept your fish by prior arrangement.

Brixham Fishery

Brixham is a very busy and successful fishing port with a proud fishing heritage.  Brixham men helped to "open up" the Newfoundland Cod Fishery and more recently Brixham men were responsible for introducing beam trawling to the UK fleet. The port has a large and diverse fleet. It is close to good fishing grounds which produce lemon soles in the early part of the year, squid and red mullet in late summer and cuttlefish from autumn through to winter.

It has an auction market run by Brixham Trawler Agents, which also supplies fuel and ice.
